Cushion guidance

How to measure cushions

Simple, practical guidance for choosing the right cushion size before you configure your order.

A better fit starts with one careful measurement.

Three things to note

Start with the cover, then choose the finish.

01

Measure the cushion cover

Remove the pad, lay the cover flat and measure seam to seam across the width and height. If the cover is piped, measure from piping to piping rather than from the outside edge.

02

Check the shape and finish

Note whether the cushion is square or rectangular, and whether you want piping around the edge. Piping adds definition and is selected separately in the configurator.

03

Choose the pad option

Select Duck Feather for a softer, fuller finish, or Cover Only if you already have an inner. The selected size controls the available pad surcharge.

What to measure

Use the finished size you want to see.

Our cushion options use the finished width and height of the cushion. If you are replacing an existing cover, measure it flat from seam to seam. If you are starting from a pad, use the size on its label where possible.

Width

Side to side

Measure across the front of the cover, from seam to seam.

Height

Top to bottom

For a rectangular cushion, measure the other face dimension in the same way.

Deeper seat cushions

Send us the depth as well

For a bench, sofa seat or boxed cushion, include the front-to-back depth and thickness. These cushions use additional side panels, so we can confirm the best way to quote and make them.

Before you order

A quick final check.

  • Use a metal tape measure and record measurements in centimetres.
  • Measure the cover or pad seam to seam, not the loose, overfilled edge.
  • Check the size twice before adding the cushion to your basket.
  • Order a fabric sample first if colour, texture or pattern scale matters.
